OneVue Sense Account Review Strengthens Operational Excellence and Compliance at Midwestern U.S. Hospital

Overview

Medium-Sized Midwestern Hospital

After visiting for audits, accrediting agencies like The Joint Commission and the College of American Pathologists often left this roughly 200-bed, medium-sized midwestern U.S. hospital disappointed. In turn, hospital leadership relied on Primex staff for a OneVue Sense account review to protect the hospital's accreditations.

Account Review Unlocks Efficiency

Primex staff provided guidance on combining monitoring points, creating dashboards, and setting automatic report generation within the OneVue platform, helping to manage out-of-range alerts and provide clear focus on important data for compliance.

Level Upgrade Adds Features

Hospital leadership chose to boost their level of OneVue Sense Subscription, allowing them an annual account review, single sign-on, unlimited user access, free hardware and probe replacements, and other additional benefits.

OneVue Sense Increases Value

The added clarity about OneVue Sense automated monitoring capabilities allowed this hospital to introduce the Vaccines for Children program at its area clinics.

“OneVue Sense protects our accreditation and safeguards products that we couldn’t replace if stored improperly or left unmonitored,” the BioMed Manager said. “There are so many products used in procedures or that are stored throughout the hospital, and if all of them went to waste, I couldn’t even begin to guess how much that would cost us — but we’re likely talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars of losses.”

Given that one Midwestern U.S. hospital has been leveraging OneVue Sense® Environmental Monitoring by Primex since 2020, long-tenured senior leadership and heads of staff were well acquainted with its automated monitoring capabilities. Some newly onboarded team members, however, had not yet experienced the full capabilities of the automated monitoring solution at the roughly 200-bed hospital in a suburban area.

As a result, when accrediting agencies like The Joint Commission and the College of American Pathologists came to assess environmental management and asset storage measures, the hospital’s accreditation status faced potential risks. Hospital managers and leadership turned to Primex for assistance in optimizing the facility’s OneVue Sense solution, which is in widespread use throughout the hospital.

“[OneVue Sense] is virtually everywhere within the hospital,” said the BioMed Manager. “We’re protecting medication, chemicals, and reagents in the pharmacy and lab. Within the surgical and emergency departments, we’re monitoring irreplaceable blood and tissue. Not to mention temperature and humidity sensors in operating rooms, catheter labs, radiology, GI — the list is long.”

OneVue Sense Account Review Unlocks Added Efficiency

The first sign of needing additional support appeared when hospital operating room personnel met difficulties logging changes in ambient temperature during procedures. Staff responsible for storing medications at the required temperature were also not yet fully utilizing OneVue Sense capabilities, instead continuing some manual logging processes.

These efficiency gaps were tied to limited time for training on the OneVue Sense solution and out-of-range OneVue Sense alerts being routed to not-yet-updated contact lists. Hospital leadership knew it was time to contact Primex.

“We reached out and the Primex team did a special one-time review of our [OneVue Sense] system with us,” the BioMed Manager said. “After that, we realized how important an annual review could be and upped our [OneVue Sense] subscription to include it. The review helped us identify ways to refine alert rules and department structures, making processes far more streamlined and effective.”

During the review, hospital personnel learned best practices for combining different monitoring points within their respective departments on the OneVue® software platform. Now, for example, surgical staff can log into OneVue and see their storage unit temperature, ambient air (temperature and humidity), and differential pressure data all in one place. For even more streamlined data access, staff can also customize their dashboards to show only relevant data points, ensuring extra clarity and focus.

Staff also learned how to better manage their out-of-range alerts. If a OneVue Sense monitoring point detects an out-of-range temperature, ambient air, or differential pressure measurement, it triggers an automatic alert, which is now sent to the appropriate department manager. These individuals can quickly review the alert on the OneVue platform and document why it occurred and what corrective steps were taken.

“When The Joint Commission comes, we can now pull up these correct alert resolutions and prove to them why, say, the operating room was measured as out of range — per the surgeon’s request, for example,” the BioMed Manager said. “We’re now able to outline the reason why an out-of-range data point happened, which is necessary for proper compliance.”

Sustaining Best Practices and Training for Continued Compliance

Following the account review, hospital leaders have continued their strong commitment to ensuring staff receive proper, ongoing training on the OneVue Sense system — a key factor in sustaining compliance and operational excellence.

“The account review was easy to understand and easy to follow,” the BioMed Manager said. “As part of our new OneVue Sense Preferred Program subscription, we also received a live user training session, which was recorded and shared. That’s already invaluable for onboarding new team members.”

With a stronger understanding of the benefits gained from OneVue Sense, hospital staff now utilize the automated report generation feature of OneVue. Every Monday, department managers each receive a week-in-review alert resolution report and hold a meeting to analyze them together.

“I don’t necessarily have enough time to pull all of the reports manually, so the automation is extremely helpful,” the BioMed Manager said. “It gives the managers the chance to recognize and applaud their teams for being accountable and keeping their products and environments safe.”

When hospital leaders decided to step up from the OneVue Sense Advanced Program, the facility gained access to the Single Sign-On feature that comes with the Preferred Program. This bolsters cybersecurity, simplifies the user login process, and limits access to only current employees. This SSO feature is in addition to real-time alerts for out-of-range conditions, unlimited users and network profiles, phone support, free hardware and probe replacements, and 10-year data retention records — all of which come standard with the OneVue Sense Preferred Program.

OneVue Sense Delivers Tangible Value

Thanks to system optimization, ongoing training, and staff engagement, this Midwestern U.S. hospital remains fully compliant, safeguards its sensitive assets and environments, and has expanded its service offerings. With the automation that OneVue Sense brings, the hospital’s clinics are now participating in the Vaccines for Children program, protecting community health and increasing patient access to essential healthcare.

Today, the hospital’s leaders fully recognize the value that OneVue Sense delivers. Regulatory visits from The Joint Commission, the College of American Pathologists, and other agencies now conclude with confidence, positive remarks, and the knowledge that this hospital is practicing at full compliance.
